About The Event
Badlanders is Van Walker's new barnstorming gothic country rock project along with Nick O'Mara (Raised by Eagles), Mick Stylianou (Double Agents), Camilla Hodgkins (Perch Creek), and Dave Rose (Drums). Combining a heady mix of brooding murder ballads, joyous singalongs and danceable rock, Badlanders is a fun musical salve for dark times.
Prolific and celebrated Tasmanian songwriter Van Walker returns with another project in a vast canon of folk, country and rock, in which the restless troubadour continues to defy genre. Gothic country rockers Badlanders sees him team up guitar-extraordinaire Nick O'Mara, ex-member of much loved folk-rock darlings Raised by Eagles, Mick Stylianou of The Double Agents on bass, Camilla Hodgkins of the Perch Creek Family Band on keys, and ex-Joni Lightening skinsman Dave Rose on drums and accordion. In the groups short existence crowds have loved their fun, emotive vibe that harkens back to 80's country radio rock when music was passionate and enjoyed without reservation.
"One of the best songwriters in the country." Jeff Lang
"Songwriting isn't so much something Van Walker does - it more defines what he is." Mick Thomas
"The fact that he has flown under the radar baffles me: he's a rare and true talent. He's also a captivating storyteller reminiscent of Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt or Bob Dylan." Denise Hyland, RRR
